We arrived in Bamburgh at 9:30pm after choosing the scenic inland route from Edinburgh - slower than anticipated. On arrival we were met with the charming village square and the lights of the local pubs. A bite to eat was priority number 2, just behind finding a spot to park for the night as we had no campsite booking.
Eagle-eyed Laura spotted a fellow VW campervan turn left from the square up the road toward the golf course. 2 minutes later we stumbled across a car park overlooking the beach with a fabulous view of the castle: a handful of evening residents already parked for the night. Perfect. A bowl of corn flakes for dinner
In the morning it was time to explore. At the heart of Bamburgh lies its iconic castle, a formidable structure that has stood watch over the coast for centuries. Originally the site of a fort in the 6th century, it has been a royal stronghold, a military outpost, and now a magnificent tourist attraction. As you approach the castle, its towering presence evokes a sense of awe. Inside we explored beautifully restored rooms, fascinating exhibitions, and learn about the castle's storied past.
Walking along the beach we stumbled across a small food shack called Bait@Bamburgh. A fantastic bacon roll and coffee was to follow, highly recommended. A walk along the beach was to follow before continuing on our journey south.
